Nedbank said yesterday it has reached its golden milestone with the official opening of its 550th branch at the Protea Glen Mall in Soweto.
“We are delighted to bring full banking services to the community of Protea Glen, building on our presence in Soweto including Dube and Dobsonville. This forms part of our commitment to make banking more accessible to all in South Africa. Since 2005, we have grown our footprint in several communities across the country, where we were previously not represented with over R1.4 billion investment into infrastructure expansion and refurbishments. We plan to invest a further R1.3 billion over the next three years,” said Ingrid Johnson: Nedbank Group Managing Executive of Retail and Business Banking.
According to research, 40% of Johannesburg’s population resides in Soweto and it is estimated that by 2013 over one million tourists will visit Soweto.
“The Protea Glen Mall is a significant investment into the fast growing infrastructure development in the area. We believe this will provide the community with greater access to retail and banking services, allowing for greater convenience. Through our client-centered approach, we seek to deliver a choice of relevant and distinctive banking experiences based on clients’ individual and business needs at every stage of their lives,” said Brian Duguid: Managing Executive Integrated Channels.
Nedbank’s involvement with the Protea Glen Mall extends to a strategic partnership with the Masingita Group of Companies, focused on township and rural development in and around the area. Through this partnership, a further boost to housing development for the community is envisaged.
The new Nedbank Protea Glen Mall branch will offer a wide range of offerings.
