The local office of global steel manufacturing giant, ArcelorMittal announced yesterday some significant changes to its board of directors which may further enhance the company’s transformation record .
ArcelorMittal SA announced that heavyweight businesswoman, Thandi Orleyn, has resigned from its board as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 October 2013. Orleyn has served on the ArcelorMittal board for the past five years.
The company also announced introduction of two new members to the board. The new members are Nomavuso Patience Mnxasana and Jacob Modise and have been appointed as independent non-executive directors with effect from 1 October 2013. The two are highly experienced corporate animals and the fact that they are black will come as a bonus to the steel giant.
Mnxasana, (BCom, BCompt (Hons), CA(SA)) served as Group Audit and Risk Head at Imperial Holdings Limited and currently serves on the following JSE listed boards: Winhold, Nedbank and JSE. Nomavuso will serve as a member on the following committees of ArcelorMittal South Africa’s board: audit and risk committee and safety, health and environment committee.
Jacob Modise (BCom (Wits), B Acc (Wits), CA(SA), MBA (WBS), AMP (Harvard)) has served on the boards of various professional organisations including the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). He has served on a number of JSE listed boards such MTN, Altron and Eskom. Jacob will serve as a member on the nomination committee and chair the remuneration, social and ethics committee of ArcelorMittal South Africa’s board.
