Danie Meintjes, the CEO of private healthcare group, Mediclinic International, earned just above
£1 million during the 2016/17 financial year, a package that does not reflect the normally large long term incentives enjoyed by corporate executives. Meintjes’ package was made of £541 in salary and fees plus an annual bonus of £439 pounds. The pound denominated package comes after Mediclinic merged with Al Noor Hospitals Group plc and moved its primary listing to the London Stock Exchange while maintaining a secondary listing on the JSE. This merger has turned Mediclinic into a major international healthcare player with total revenue of £2.7 billion. The operation boasts 74 hospitals and 37 clinics in southern Africa, Switzerland, and the Middle East.
Jurgens Myburgh, appointed Chief Financial Officer on 1 August 2016, earned £430 000. Mediclinic also pays its non-executive directors quite well. The chairperson of the board Dr Edwin Hertzog earned £253 000 in directors fees.
