A new mini shopping centre anchored by Spar has popped up on the backside of the luxurious Blue Valley Golf Estate on the border of Midrand and Centurion to further tighten up the shopping centre market.

The Blue Valley Convenience Centre is located on the western edges of the luxurious residential estate and overlooks vacant land that separates the estate and Olivenhoutbosch and Kosmosdal in Centurion.

A couple of shops are already up and running including the Spar and its liquor outlet Tops. There is also Pressed in Time, Nextgen Devices, Gozone in a double storey centre that will take about 12 tenants on the ground floor. The top floor looks suitable for small offices and service businesses.

If ever there was a destination shopping centre this is it. The road leading to Blue Valley Golf Estate leads to a dead end which means you won’t come across this centre by chance. You’ve got to go out of your way and embark on a mission to access it via the Rooihuiskraal Road.

But then it does offer convenience to the immediate residential estates, like Blue Valley Golf Estate and Valley View which are just around the corner. And these developments form part of a fabulous story of a trillion rands corridor that connects Pretoria and Johannesburg. However its compelling to ask if the Blue Valley Convenience Centre Woolworths Food was not a more suitable anchor tenant for this market with houses averaging about R5 million.

The Blue Valley Convenience Centre does come to tighten up shopping centre competition in the Midrand/Centurion area. It’s positioned to serve the surrounding affluent areas as made by the Blue Valley Golf Estate, Valley View Estates, Country View, Savannah Hills, Brooklands, Summerfields Estate and the broader Kosmosdal area.

It will certainly take away customers from nearby retail developments which have popped up recently. These include the Pick n’ Pay anchored Blue Hills Shopping Centre, the new Shoprite shopping centre in the Brooklands area and further north another Pick n Pay anchored neighbourhood centre called Blue Valley Mall. There is also Grey Owl on the eastern side of the N1 highway.

Looking south of the Blue Valley Convenience Centre site, you will find Calswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre which is also anchored by a Spar and across the road the Sanridge Square featuring a Pick n’ Pay and Woolworths. Bigger retail centres developments in and around the area include The Reds, Centurion Lifestyle, Centurion Mall, Boulders in the Midrand CBD, The Mall of Africa and Forest Hill City.
