The news of a blaze which caused damage at the KwaZulu-Natal facility of JSE listed document warehouse specialist Metrofile was bound to cause some scare.
The company announced via the JSE that a fire occurred at one of the MetrofileRecords Management Kwa-Zulu Natal facilities on Friday evening, 11 October 2013. “The fire was contained by the following day and fortunately no one was injured”.
Many corporations across the country keep piles of files with this company and news like this will worry many executives.
Metrofile moved to calm nerves by stating that it has successfully activated its business continuity and disaster recovery plan.
The company added that it is working with relevant authorities and has commenced a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident and which client records have been affected.
“All clients whose records have been affected will be contacted directly,” said the company.
Added the company, “All operating systems and data have been moved to an alternate site and are up and running”.
The offices, imaging bureau, management of backup tapes and hard drives were not impacted although delays in delivery will occur in the week ahead due to limited access to the site”.
The company said it is insured for occurrences of this nature and has notified insurers.
“We would like to extend our thanks to our regional management team and staff, the Fire and Emergency Services of the Ethekwini Municipality, as well as the local community and business owners for their assistance and support”.
