The Billion Group has roped in four black professionals to beef up its team of property practitioners in a move that shows that Sisa Ngebulana means business in his talk of establishing a black controlled property giant.
In a statement released yesterday, the Billion Group which is one of South Africa’s leading black-owned property developers and asset managers, said it has bolstered its capacity by appointing four new professionals to its management team. These are Mande Ndema, Oratile Mosetlhi, Gaby Sithole, Zandile Ngebulana and Vongani Mbhokota.
Sisa Ngebulana, Rebosis chief executive and owner of Billion Group commented: “I am delighted to welcome (the four) to our management team.”
Guided by Ngebulana, The Billion Group has emerged into a premium property investment player and has spun out a multibillion rands JSE listed property portfolio known as Rebosis Property Fund. This translated into an encroachment of sort into a sector which remains to be largely dominated by white professionals. The mainstream property investment sector remains the least transformed sector of the economy.
In spinning out Rebosis last year, the Billion Group gave South Africa the first black controlled listed property fund. It also delivered the first black CEO in the listed property sector of the JSE, in form of Ngebulana who serves as Rebosis CEO.
The Billion Group created Rebosis out of a portfolio made of 60% retail property by value and 40% office buildings. The retail portfolio comprised of three shopping centers, a regional shopping centre, Hemingways Mall in East London, Mdantsane City in Buffalo City (East London) and Bloed Street Mall in Pretoria. When it listed Rebosis boasted a portfolio valued around R2bn and has been expanded to approach the R4bn mark.
In his latest annual CEO statement Ngebulana declared that “Our strategy is to grow our portfolio with high grade properties that are yield-enhancing, located in prime high demand areas and underpinned by quality tenants”.
Rebosis chairperson said Anna Mokgokong said “As a black-managed and substantially black-held PLS, Rebosis remains committed to continually enhancing B-BBEE. Focus will be on ensuring that any equity transactions are truly broad-based”.
This will clearly be supported by the latest appointment at Billion Group level. The profile of the new appointees is as follows:
He has held a number of senior positions during his career, most recently as Group Company Secretary at Real People. He was also Group Company Secretary at AVI Limited and a Senior BEE Compliance consultant at Sanlam limited.
