A new South African based online platform, AmAfrikan.com, has popped up with a mission of connecting local entrepreneurs who sell luxury art, crafts and fashion brands to the global market.
AmAfrikan.com is a brainchild of Lerato Masha, a qualified engineer, who dropped his safety boots to dabble in the world of e-commerce. AmAfrikan.com connects buyers with sellers.
The title of the operation is interesting in capturing its essence. AmAfrikan is obviously derived from the expression “I’m an African” widely used to asset Pan Africanism.
A graduate from the University of Stellenbosch, Masha has expressed an ambition to harness Africa originated luxury brands to take on global giants. He was quoted I Business Day saying “There are many treasures created by designers, artists and entrepreneurs from our continent that don’t often have the platform to make their ideas commercially viable. We want to change the narrative of luxury brands only being European or American.”
