GIBS beefs up senior management team with Prof Kleyn

Professor Nicola Kleyn has been appointed as the deputy dean at the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) working alongside the business school’s Dean, Professor Nick Binedell.

This appointment looks to further strengthen the senior management team of the business school as it continues to enjoy sustained growth and further enhance the school’s ability to deliver world-class business education. Professor Kleyn brings invaluable and diverse experience which will be instrumental to this new role.

“With many years of experience, Nicola has built a strong reputation in the marketing community, her area of academic specialisation. She has been a key figure at GIBS since its inception and her outstanding academic record speaks for itself. I am delighted that she has accepted this important leadership role,” says Professor Nick Binedell. “I look forward to working with her as we take GIBS to the next level and continue to build a globally competitive and internationally recognised business school for business leaders,” he added.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Kleyn said, “Having had the opportunity to teach on the inaugural MBA class at GIBS and to watch the school grow from strength to strength, it is an honour to be assuming this new role. The sustained growth in demand for the MBA programme is testimony to South Africa’s need to develop leaders and managers who not only lead competitive organisations but also contribute to the dialogue and economic growth that this country needs”.

Professor Kleyn, who joined GIBS in 2000, was executive director: academic programmes prior to her appointment as deputy dean. Previously she was an associate professor in marketing at GIBS with a particular interest in the areas of marketing strategy, customer focus, branding and ethics. She holds a

BCom, a BCom (Hons), an MBA (Wits) and a DBA (UP). Before joining academia her career in commerce included heading up learning and development at Investec Bank.

As deputy dean, Nicola will remain head of academic programmes at GIBS and will continue to lecture on various academic and executive education custom programmes.
