The Black Management Forum has roped one of its high profiled members Nicholas Maweni to fill the organisation’s MD position which had been vacant for about six months.
In a statement the BMF board said Maweni was the most senior South African black executive in the leadership team of IBM Africa. He was responsible for Sub Saharan Africa, looking after their Marketing, Communications, Demand Programs, Workforce & Field Enablement, CSI and Market Research. He has over 14 years of corporate experience.
“We are pleased to have Mr. Nicholas Maweni as our Managing Director as he brings to the BMF a wealth of local and global experience,” said Tembakazi Mnyaka, Deputy President of the BMF. “His strategic marketing expertise will be a great asset for the BMF in achieving our vision.”
Maweni has served as the Group Marketing Director of Crossroads Distribution, a leading logistics, transport, supply chain company in Africa which owns the likes of Skynet Worldwide Express. He was the Executive Head of Corporate Affairs at Virgin Mobile since its launch in South Africa.
Before Virgin, he was the Marketing Director for ATIO Corporation. He has worked for various companies in the ICT sector, including Vodacom, Marconi, TIBCO to mention but a few.
In 2010 he was honored with the Manager of the Year Award at the BMF Achievement Awards Ceremony. He has received received a number of awards from the likes of the Institute of Marketing Management and the City of Port Elizabeth as the Citizen of the Year in 1999. He has a Masters in Business Administration majoring in Strategic Marketing from the UK.
